Meet our Founder
Roger Sparkes has been the owner of Champions Place since 1978. It is one of three imposing buildings in a row along the south-facing escarpment flanked by Caxton House and the Marie-Curie buildings, but hidden from view to walkers in the fields below. Roger runs Champions Place as a care home for up to 14 adults with Learning Disabilities. The care home is set in idyllic grounds of six acres.
Roger's roots are in South London, his education at John Fisher School in Purley. After school he worked for a time in a camera shop and then for his father’s insurance brokerage. In 1964 he and his wife Gwynfa bought a care home for the elderly in Cheam.
Roger's first care home was followed by another in 1975 when they bought a home for adults with Learning Disabilities in Streatham. Three years later Roger and Gwynfa purchased Champions Place. The care home was run by them with help from local church volunteers.
Roger it is still very much hands-on and it is still very much his intention on making Champions Place as homely and comfortable environment where every resident is looked after until the end of life.

Meet our Manager
Sandra Hayworth first came to Champions Place in 1985 and has worked in a variety of roles since, living locally to the care home and taking time out to raise her family. Sandra became the care home manager in 2009 and runs Champions Place with full-time support from a dedicated team. She is a skilled and dedicated manager, leading a team of junior and senior carers and dealing with all aspects of day-to-day running, to ensure that all residents are safe and well cared for. Away from Champions Place Sandra is very family orientated, enjoys travelling and socialising with friends.
